In a video shared on social media, the Igbo actress could be seen urging her Yoruba colleagues to stop speaking the language as a means of communicating with everyone.
In her appeal, Destiny Etiko encouraged them to learn how to communicate in either English or pidgin, emphasizing the importance of broader accessibility and inclusivity.
“I just don’t know why whenever you are speaking to Yoruba people, they will always want to speak Yoruba. Ehhhhh I don’t understand even on blogs. You all will be speaking Yoruba like everyone is Yoruba. You guys should try and speak English or broken,” she said.
Reacting to the post, many people criticise Destiny Etiko for allegedly not practicing what she advocates, pointing out that she frequently includes her own Igbo dialect in every sentence she speaks.
KanyiDaily recalls that Destiny Etiko had recently stirred reactions on social media after she expressed her desire to visit a mountain resembling the shape of a woman’s private part.
