Petrol Hike Forces FG Agency To Reduce Work Days To Three

As a result of the hike in the price of petrol arising from the removal of subsidy, an agency of the Federal Government, the Public Complaints Commission, has mulled work from home for its workers.

Punch reports that this was disclosed in a memo signed by the secretary to the commission, Hajiya Mamman.

The reports said the memo which was titled ‘Adjustment of work schedule’, was dated July 18, 2023.

According to the report, the memo, which was addressed to all state commissioners read, “Due to the recent fuel increase which represents fifteen per cent (15%) increase from the amount we have been buying since the inception of this regime with its attendance (sic) consequences on everybody in Nigeria and our staff in particular.

“I am directed to request you to work out a work plan and attendance structure that will enable staff to work painstakingly. The office should be divided into two (2) teams, for equitable interchange within the week with Mondays being general attendance for everyone.

“This is to ameliorate the hardship being faced by staff due to the fuel subsidy removal. This arrangement will last till the situation improves. Please, accept the Honourable Chief Commissioners esteemed regards.”

Kanyi Daily reported that the pump price of petrol was last tuesday increased to about N617 per litre. The increment has continued to cause untold hardship for most Nigerians.
