The immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike was on Monday, screened and cleared by the senate for a ministerial role.

Wike was among the 28 names of ministerial nominees sent to the Senate last week by President Bola Tinubu.

The ministerial list was the first batch of nominees by the president.

While reeling out his curriculum vitae and achievements, Wike said he accepted the ministerial offer because of his passion for Nigeria.

He said, “I accepted the offer to serve as a ministerial nomination because of my passion to serve Nigeria.”

According to reports, Rivers state lawmakers, represented by Senator Barinada Mpigi (PDP, Rivers Southeast) during the screening told Nigerians that Wike was the best in the state.

He said, “His Excellency former Governor Nyesom Wike is our best in Rivers State. He is our leader and role model.

“Distinguished senators, we employ that you should let him just take a bow and go.

“His resume is insufficient to enumerate the works that he has done.”

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, therefore asked Wike to take a bow and leave.

In an earlier submission, Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau extolled the former governor stating that he was thrilled by the work he did in Rivers State.

Barau said, “The first time, I got to River State; I was shocked because of the impact of the work that you did in the state.

“In fact, I thought I was abroad and not in Nigeria. Will you be able to replicate the same work if you were confirmed as a Minister?”

Wike was the leader of the G5 governors under the platform of the PDP, who opposed the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The G5 group comprising immediate past governors Samuel Ortom of Benue, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Wike, and current Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state, had argued that it was the turn of southern Nigeria to produce the president having had immediate past president Muhammadu Buhari completing two terms of eight years.

It is not clear what ministry Wike would be assigned to.

In other news, Kanyi Daily reported that controversial self-acclaimed relationship expert, Blessing CEO has argued that men in Nigeria cheat because of their ego and the lawlessness in the country.

She stated this while speaking on the topic: ‘Husband-Snatching: Reality or Myth’ on Arise TV’s ‘Perspectives’ when she was hosted on the show by Ruth Osime and life coach Enahoro Okhae on Sunday.
