NLC Threatens Fresh Strike Over Fuel Hike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Monday, vowed to begin a total, comprehensive, and indefinite nationwide shutdown of the country if there is another increment in petrol pump price from the existing 617 naira.

NLC president, Joe Ajaero, gave the notification on Monday, at the African Trade Union alliance meeting in Abuja, where organised labour also warned against undermining the demands of the union.

Reports say on Sunday, oil marketers hinted that the cost of petrol would rise to between N680/lite and N720/litre in the coming weeks should the dollar continue to trade from N910 to N950 at the parallel market.

The NLC had described the existing 617 pump price as “illegal.”

It should be recalled that the NLC on Thursday, August 4, 2023, suspended a proposed indefinite strike after meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

This is a developing report. More details will be added soon.

In other news, Kanyi Daily reported that a contract employee with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Emmanuel Odey has been jailed by a Magistrate Court 2 sitting in Kado Life Camp, Abuja for six months for stealing a HP laptop belonging to the board.
