Tobi Amusan Cleared Of Doping Violation, To Defend Her Title At World Championships

Nigerian 100m hurdles world record holder, Tobi Amusan has had her suspension lifted and cleared of breaking anti-doping rules due to missed tests.

KanyiDaily recalls that Tobi Amusan was accused by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) of missing three tests within 12 months, casting doubt on her participation in the world championships.

The 26-year-old athlete had maintained her innocence and denied using performance-enhancing substance, expressing her determination to contest the allegations brought against her.

In a statement from the AIU on Thursday, August 17, the body lifted the suspension placed on Amusan last month for whereabouts failures.

The AIU said: “A panel of the disciplinary tribunal, by majority decision, has today found that Tobi Amusan has not committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation of three whereabouts failures within a 12-month period.

“AIU head Brett Clothier has indicated the AIU is disappointed by this decision and will review the reasoning in detail before deciding whether to exercise its right of appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.”

Reacting on her Instagram page, Amusan who was set to miss the World Athletics Championships in Budapest this weekend, said she is eager to defend her title at the upcoming competition.

“I’m thrilled to put this behind me and look forward to defending my title at next week’s World Championships,” the 26-year-old wrote.

KanyiDaily recalls that Tobi Amusan set the women’s 100m hurdles world record at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon in July 2022, crossing the line in 12.12 seconds.
