Billionaire Mohamed Al-Fayed Is Dead

Mohamed Al-Fayed, the former owner of Harrods department store, Fulham football club, and the father of Dodi Fayed, who died in a car tragedy with Princess Diana in 1997, died Friday, September 1 in London. He was 94.

According to Al Jazeera Egypt, he was buried after Friday prayers at the Regent’s Park Mosque in London.

 

According to Al Shorouk, a member of his family, Ashraf Haider, wrote: “My wife’s grandfather, Egyptian businessman Mohamed Al-Fayed, has died.” We belong to God, and we will return to Him.”

 

Mohamed Al-Fayed was born in 1929 in Alexandria, Egypt. In the mid-1960s, he relocated to the United Kingdom and built a fortune in business. In 1954, he married Samira Khashoggi.

Al-Fayed is most known for owning Harrods, which he purchased in 1985 and sold to Qatar in 2010 for $2.4 billion. He was also the owner of the Ritz Paris Hotel and the Fulham Football Club.

Al Fayed sold Fulham Football Club to US auto parts billionaire Shahid Khan for an estimated $300 million in 2013.

 

Dodi, his eldest son, had known the king for approximately a decade before passion blossomed during a yacht vacation in the south of France.

They were denied the chance to spend their lives together, dying side by side in a vehicle accident in Paris.

 

Billionaire Mohamed Al-Fayed dies at the age of 94, nearly 26 years after his son perished in a car accident with Princess Diana.

Al-Fayed was an outspoken opponent of the British royal family.
