KanyiDaily had reported how many people who attended Mohbad’s candlelight procession fled in panic after police allegedly used tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Amid the outrage trailing the incident, Dotun claimed that attendees of Mohbad’s memorial event in Lagos, who refused to disperse when asked, played a role in the police firing tear gas.
Dotun clarified that after the candlelight procession and tribute night had concluded, attendees were instructed to leave, but some individuals gathered at the Lekki tollgate.
He retweeted a video showing police officers pleading with the people at the tollgate to go home, noting that their refusal led the officers to resort to tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Reacting to his comment, Rinu Oduala disagreed, stressing that the police had no valid reason to use tear gas on the event attendees.
