Police Parade Nweke Nnajiofor For Allegedly Flogging Teacher To Death In Death

Delta State Police Command, yesterday, paraded Mr. Nnajiofor Nweke, who was accused of causing the death of a teacher at Alihame Mixed Secondary School in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of the state.

It was alleged that Nweke resorted to violence as a form of retaliation against the school for disciplining his son.

The deceased, Mr. Sunday Ufua, was until his death, a physics teacher in the school.

Parading the suspect, Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe said “On 18th October 2023, at about 9 am, one Nnajiofor Nweke, father to one Emmanuel Nweke went to Alihame Mixed Secondary School, Agbor where his child schools.

“The suspect went to the school premises aggressively in search of one of the school teachers over a punishment meted to his son at the school.

“The suspect on sighting the said teacher picked up a cane in the school and started flogging him during which another teacher one Ufah Sunday while trying to mediate and stop him slumped and was rushed to central hospital where he was confirmed dead by the doctor.

“Suspect is currently in custody and investigation is ongoing.”

Nweke, a 44-year-old butcher, has denied flogging the teacher, claiming that he was only on the school premises when the man slumped.

He said he had gone to the school after he was informed that his son, a 12-year-old JSS 2 student was flogged by a teacher, saying “On getting to the school, l asked what my son did that they could not invite me to the school.”

He said one of the teachers said his son went to the bush to drink palm wine and he called him a useless father who could not control his children and would leave them to go and steal.

“As l carried a cane that was on the table to flog him, one of the teachers advised that l should wait for the Principal to report the matter to him.

At that time, it was getting to the time of my business, so l went out.

“Later, my daughter called and said that the teacher that used to look after them had slumped and l rushed back.”

Kanyi Daily recalls that Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori had ordered the police to investigate the alleged killing of a schoolteacher, Sunday Ufua, by a parent at Alihami Secondary School in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area.
