Bassey Otu Appointed Chairman of APC Governorship Primary Committee in Edo

Bassey Otu, the governor of Cross River State, has been appointed as the chairman of the governorship primary election committee in Edo State by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This decision came after receiving multiple petitions from various quarters urging for the removal of Hope Uzodinma, the chairman of the election committee.

Uzodinma, governor of Imo and chairman of the panel, led the committee, which sparked controversy by presenting three different candidates – Dennis Idahosa, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and Anamero Sunday Dekeri – and ultimately declaring Dennis Idahosa as the winner

In response to the controversy, the National Working Committee of the ruling party deemed the initial primary election inconclusive. Consequently, an emergency meeting was convened on Tuesday night in Abuja, where it was resolved to conduct a fresh primary on Thursday.

In a list unveiled on the eve of the new primary, Governor Otu of Cross River was designated as the chairman of the new committee responsible for overseeing the election.

Before this announcement, there was widespread outrage demanding the removal of Uzodinma as the panel’s chairman

In a joint statement signed by Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Lucky Imasuen, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and General Charles Airhiavbere, retired, the aspirants expressed that Uzodinma did not adhere to the minimum requirements for compliance with the relevant provisions of the laws and regulations guiding the election, as provided in both the Electoral Act and the APC Constitution.
