John Cena appeared naked on the stage at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood at Sunday’s 96th Academy Awards in a bit with host Jimmy Kimmel.
During the introduction of the 2024 Academy Award nominees for best costume design, immy Kimmel recalled a historic streaking incident 50 years prior when actor David Niven was surprised by a naked man running across the stage.
As Kimmel announced Poor Things as the winner, Cena could be seen wearing a nude colored curtain in the fashion of a toga.
“Can you imagine if a nude man ran across the stage today?” Kimmel wondered aloud as Cena peeked out from behind a wall.
“I changed my mind. I don’t want to do the streaker bit anymore,” Cena whispered to the late night host as they pretended to argue about the apparent prior arrangement. “The male body is not a joke.”
Despite the brief dispute, Cena fulfilled his duty, approaching the microphone in the nude, save for a strategically placed Oscars envelope.
“Costumes, they are so important,” the Dolby Theatre erupted in laughter as Cena emphasized the importance of costumes.
When John Cena declined to lift the envelope to announce the nominees, Kimmel intervened and initiated the nomination reel.
In a video shared by The Hollywood Reporter’s Chris Gardner, stage crew members were seen rushing on stage to gracefully drape an elegant curtain over Cena as the reel played.
The award for best costume design went to “Poor Things,” a film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and starring Emma Stone.
KanyiDaily recalls that John Cena previously made headlines after he was seen publicly wearing high heels, a short skirt and tights on the set of his new movie.
