“Men Are The Reason I Don’t Win Awards In Nigeria” – Yemi Alade

Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Yemi Eberechi Alade, better known as Yemi Alade, has spoken about her lack of award wins in the music industry.

Yemi Alade disclosed that she faced pressure from people within the industry who sought to exploit her, offering promises of advancement in exchange for compromising favors.

According to WithinNigeria, Yemi Alade emphasized the role of men in impeding her progress, attributing her lack of award to her decision to reject sexual advances from anyone.

She highlighted the challenges she faced, including being overlooked in award nominations and discussions about top female artists in Nigeria.

Despite these obstacles, Yemi Alade remains resolute in her decision, valuing her dignity, autonomy, and the unwavering support of her fans.

The singer said that while her opportunities may have been restricted, she takes pride in her integrity, financial stability, and the affection of her loyal fan base.

She said: “There was a time in the industry when everyone wanted to sleep with me and it was like, ‘Yemi, if you don’t do this, you won’t have that. Today men are the reason I don’t win awards in Nigeria.

“Going down with men was like a bridge I had to cross to get on some platforms, get some deals and even awards.

“When I made my decision never to engage in sexual activities for gains, lots of opportunities were automatically blocked for me.

“Ask yourself why Yemi Alade who is the most viewed and most subscribed Nigerian female artiste on YouTube gets almost no recognition from award shows year after year.

“Even during twitter debates, no one mentions Yemi Alade as one of the biggest female artistes in Nigeria.

“They really blocked everything for me. But l’m glad coz l have my dignity, I have my life, l’m making cool cash and above all, I have fans who love me so much…”

KanyiDaily recalls that Yemi Alade recently cried out about the pressure she feels from her family and friends to marry.
