It was gathered that the blast occurred due to mishandling of cooking gas cylinders near shop entrances.
Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos police command, confirmed the incident on Wednesday, stating that three people were also injured.
Taking to his X page, Hundeyin wrote: “It is just a week and we have recorded another gas explosion at a gas retail shop, this time in Ibeju-Lekki.
“Sadly, two persons died, three persons sustained injuries and four shops got razed. Let us prevent avoidable deaths. Let us be safety-conscious at all times!”
Responding to the explosion were officers from the Lekki Phase II fire station, along with health, environment, and military personnel.
KanyiDaily had previously reported how four persons, a male and three females were injured following a gas explosion at the Ijaiye beside the Apostolic Church in the Agege area of Lagos State.
