Yahaya Bello Still Wanted, Not In Our Custody – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has clarified that former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello is not in their custody.

KanyiDaily recalls that the EFCC had filed a 19-count charge against Yahaya Bello, accusing him of laundering ₦80 billion.

The former governor was declared wanted after he repeatedly ignored the EFCC’s summons for questioning and had also skipped multiple court hearings.

On Wednesday morning, Bello’s media office claimed he had honored the EFCC’s invitation after consulting with his family and legal team, though no proof of his visit was provided.

However, EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale has insisted that Bello remains wanted for alleged involvement in a ₦80.2 billion money laundering case, and a warrant for his arrest is still in effective

Oyewale emphasized that the former governor is not in EFCC custody, despite reports claiming otherwise.

Media reports today that a former Governor of Kogi State, Mr. Yahaya Bello is in the holding facility of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is incorrect. The Commission wishes to state that Bello is not in its custody.

“Bello, already declared wanted by the Commission for alleged N80.2billion money laundering charges, remains wanted with a subsisting warrant for his arrest,” Oyewale said.

KanyiDaily recalls that the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun recently ordered the withdrawal of all police officers assigned to Yahaya Bello.
