National Grid Collapses Second Time In Two Days

Nigerians are facing yet another blackout as the national grid has collapsed once again on Thursday.

KanyiDaily recalls that the recent national grid failure occurred on Tuesday, marking the 10th collapse since the start of 2024.

As of Thursday at 11 am, reports confirmed that the 22 power plants across the country were generating only 2,323 megawatts, before eventually dropping to zero.

Earlier in the day, the peak electricity generation had been recorded at 3,743 megawatts around 10 am.

The Nigeria National Grid (@NationalGridNg), in a statement signed by JosDisco’s Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Friday Adakole, confirmed the national grid collapse o. Thursday.

The statement read: “The current outage being experienced within our franchise states is a result of a loss of power supply from the national grid.

“The loss of power supply from the national grid occurred this morning at about 11:28 AM on Thursday, 7th November 2024, hence the loss of power supply on all our feeders.

“We hope to restore normal power supply to our esteemed customers as soon as the grid supply is restored to normalcy. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we strive to serve you better.”

The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) also notified customers of the collapse, assuring them that efforts to restore power are underway alongside other key partners, though no timeline was specified.

IKEDC’s message read, “Dear Esteemed Customer, please be informed that we experienced a system outage today, 7 November 2024, at 11:29 hrs, affecting supply within our network.

“Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders. Kindly bear with us.”

So far, the Transmission Company of Nigeria has not issued any updates on the incident, which makes this the 11th grid collapse this year.

KanyiDaily recalls that three weeks ago, the national grid also collapsed twice under 24 hours, leaving many areas without power.
