FG Declares December 25, 26, January 1 As Public Holidays For Christmas And New Year

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced public holidays for Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year celebrations.

Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26, 2024, and Wednesday, January 1, 2025, have been designated as holidays for these festivities.

This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.

In a statement signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Minister extended warm wishes to all Nigerians.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to use the holiday season as an opportunity to reflect on the values of love, peace, and unity that Christmas represents.

He emphasized the importance of fostering harmony within families and communities and strengthening bonds across the nation.

He also encouraged citizens to remain dedicated to promoting peace, unity, and progress for the country’s development.

“The Christmas season is a good moment for both spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences,” he stated.

The Minister reassured Nigerians of the government’s commitment to maintaining peace, security, and prosperity throughout the country.

As he wished everyone a joyful Christmas and a successful 2025, Dr. Tunji-Ojo expressed optimism about President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo believes the new year will bring a stronger economy and significant progress for the nation.

KanyiDaily recalls that President Bola Tinubu also approved a 50% reduction in interstate transport fares during the Yuletide season to ease travel costs for Nigerians celebrating Christmas and New Year.
