Police Arrest Officer Filmed Holding Naira Notes For Billionaire Rasaq Okoya’s Son [Video]

Nigerian police have arrested an officer seen in a viral video involving the sons of Lagos billionaire industrialist, Chief Rasaq Okoya, engaging in naira abuse.

The video captures a mobile policeman holding bundles of N1000 notes, while Okoya’s sons danced and tossed the cash into the air.

In a statement shared on Friday via his X account, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the officer’s arrest and detention.

The Ploice PRO added that the officer has been identified and is currently undergoing disciplinary proceedings.

Adejobi criticized the officer’s actions, labeling them unprofessional and unethical.

However, no mention was made of any consequences for Chief Okoya’s sons, who were allegedly the primary offenders in the naira abuse incident.

The abuse of the naira is a violation of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) regulations, which prohibit mishandling or spraying currency during events.

The statement read, “The policeman captured in the recent viral video shared by the sons of the Lagos businessman, Chief Okoya, where they were abusing the naira, has been identified and detained for disciplinary action.”

“The involvement of the policeman has been condemned, as it’s unethical. We will always strive hard to uphold the sanctity, credibility, and core values of the police”.

While many praised the police for acting against the officer, there have been widespread calls for Chief Okoya’s sons to also face legal action for their role in the naira abuse.

KanyiDaily recalls that crossdresser Bobrisky was recently sentenced to six months in prison for abusing the naira, without the option of a fine.
