I Didn’t Enjoy Playing For PSG, I Wasn’t Happy On Daily Basis – Lionel Messi Reveals

Argentine football star, Lionel Messi has admitted he “didn’t enjoy” his time at Paris Saint-Germain, reflecting on his two-year stint at the French club.

The 37-year-old joined PSG in 2021 after spending 21 years at Barcelona.

During his time in Paris, Messi scored 32 goals and assisted 35 in 76 matches before moving to Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami, a team co-owned by David Beckham.

Speaking with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner opened up about his struggles in France, revealing that Inter Miami’s vision and growth as a relatively new club made the move appealing to him.

He said: “Coming to play for Inter Miami was an opportunity and the way things developed during my last years in Paris, although it was a decision that I had to make on the go, because I had to leave from Barcelona, I went through two years which I didn’t enjoy.

“I wasn’t happy on a daily basis, with the training, the matches. I had a hard time adapting to all that. I felt called to come to Inter [Miami] because it’s a club that’s growing, very new, with few years as a club.

His departure from PSG wasn’t without controversy. Club chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi later criticized Messi for what he saw as a lack of respect toward the club.

Meanwhile, the Argentine star acknowledged that his relationship with PSG fans had soured, with a significant number turning against him before he left.

Since arriving in Miami, Lionel Messi has been focused on helping the team and Major League Soccer develop further. He has already made a strong impact, contributing 36 goals and 20 assists in 42 games.

Looking ahead, he is excited about the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which will take place in Miami and feature teams like PSG, Manchester City, and Chelsea.

“I think this is very important for the club, especially, to participate for the first time in a World Cup that will take place in the country and for the MLS to have two teams is a wonderful thing.

“Everything that’s happening creates an opportunity for the MLS to keep growing in football, as a league. And for other players to have the opportunity to come and keep growing,” he said.

KanyiDaily recalls that Major League Soccer (MLS) recently fined Lionel Messi after he was caught grabbing a New York City FC coach by the neck during a heated exchange.
