KanyiDaily recalls that Natasha Akpoti was suspended for six months on Thursday, March 6, 2025, after the Senate disciplinary committee found her guilty of violating Senate rules.
This decision came in the aftermath of her allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Expressing her dissatisfaction, Senator Natasha vowed to continue fighting for justice, insisting that the decision against her would not stand.
“This injustice would not stand,” furious Senator Natasha faulted her suspension, vowing to continue the “pursuit for justice”
Her suspension was based on the committee’s findings, which were presented to the lawmakers during a plenary session.
The committee had investigated claims of misconduct and ruled that Natasha’s actions warranted disciplinary measures.
Despite some senators advocating for a shorter suspension, the majority upheld the six-month penalty.
However, Akpabio, who presided over the session, noted that the Senate might reconsider her suspension if she submits a formal apology.
The Senate committee initially recommended stopping her salary and that of her aides for the duration of the suspension, but Senator Orji Uzor Kalu opposed this, arguing that her aides should not suffer consequences for her suspension.
Natasha Akpoti’s clash with Godswill Akpabio began on February 20, 2025, following a dispute over a change in her seat arrangement.
This led to a heated exchange in the Senate, which later escalated into allegations of sexual harassment against the Senate President—a claim Akpabio denied.
Although she submitted a petition regarding her allegations, it was dismissed before the Senate ultimately decided to suspend her.
Despite this, Senator Natasha resubmitted the petition during Thursday’s plenary session, leading the Senate to direct the petition back to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct for further review.
KanyiDaily recalls that Godswill Akpabio recently denied accusations of sexual harassment leveled against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
