Bollywood Actor, Manoj Kumar Is Dead

Legendary Bollywood actor and director, Manoj Kumar, known for his patriotic roles in Hindi cinema, died on Friday at the age of 87.

Manoj Kumar’s death has sparked an outpouring of tributes on social media, with fans, celebrities, and politicians paying their respects.

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi described him as an “icon of Indian cinema”” and praised his legacy of inspiring national pride through film.

“Manoj Ji’s [a term of respect in Hindi] works ignited a spirit of national pride and will continue to inspire generations” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Actors from across generations also remembered him fondly.

Akshay Kumar said Manoj Kumar’s films played a big role in shaping his love for the country, while Ajay Devgn thanked him for creating moments that have become part of Indian cinema’s rich history.

Born Harikrishan Goswami in Punjab in 1937, Manoj Kumar became a household name with classic films like “Shaheed”, “Roti Kapda Aur Makaan”, and “Kranti”.

His movies often focused on national pride, the struggles of ordinary people, and the sacrifices made for India’s independence.

During a time when India was still healing from British colonial rule, his films struck a powerful emotional chord with audiences.

His deep connection to patriotic themes earned him the nickname “Bharat Kumar” — a symbol of India itself.

Even in the digital age, scenes from his films, especially those showcasing his stirring speeches and love for the country, have continued to resonate with fans and are frequently shared online.

Over the years, Manoj Kumar received several prestigious honours, including the Padma Shri and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award — India’s highest recognition in cinema.

His legacy as a storyteller who captured the spirit of a nation will live on.
