Nenadi Usman Hails Supreme Court Ruling Against Julius Abure

Senator Nenadi Usman, the Chairman of the Labour Party Caretaker Committee, has hailed the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the earlier judgment by the Court of Appeal in Abuja that had recognized Julius Abure as the party’s National Chairman.

The Supreme Court ruled that the Court of Appeal lacked the legal authority to name Abure as the party’s chairman, stating it was an internal party matter that courts shouldn’t interfere with.

In a statement on Friday, Nenadi Usman described the ruling as a win for justice and a step forward for Nigeria’s democracy.

Usman said the Labour Party remains focused on its mission to build a better Nigeria, urging party members not to view the ruling as a win for one side over the other.

She reassured supporters that the Labour Party remains united and committed to building a just and inclusive nation.

“The recent ruling by the Supreme Court, which allowed the appeal filed by Senator Nenadi Usman, declaring it meritorious, while dismissing the cross-appeal filed by the Abure faction of the Labour Party as unmeritorious, is a victory for the rule of law and a significant milestone for our democracy,” she said.

“It is important to emphasize that this is not a time for triumphalism, there is no victor and no vanquished. What matters most is our shared commitment to the ideals and aspirations of the Labour Party and the Nigerian people. We must now come together, united in purpose and vision, to move the party forward.

“The Labour Party remains one indivisible family, steadfast in its mission to create a New Nigeria founded on justice, equity, and people-centred governance.

“We call on all party members, supporters, and stakeholders to remain calm, focused, and committed to the democratic ideals that bind us. A New Nigeria is POssible!”
