Tinubu And Fubara Reportedly Met In London Over Rivers Political Crisis

President Bola Tinubu is said to have met with Siminalayi Fubara, the suspended governor of Rivers State, in London last week.

According to Africa Report, two unnamed aides close to the president confirmed the private meeting.

Tinubu left Nigeria for Paris on April 2 for a two-week official trip.

After his stop in France, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga revealed that the president visited London before heading back to Nigeria on April 21.

Sources say the meeting was arranged at Fubara’s request, as he’s eager to return to office.

During their conversation, Fubara reportedly offered to make certain concessions to help ease the ongoing political conflict in the state.

Those familiar with the meeting said negotiations are still underway, and there’s a chance that Fubara’s suspension could be lifted before the initial six-month period ends.

Back on March 18, Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State due to the drawn-out political unrest.

As part of that decision, he suspended Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all members of the state assembly for six months.

President Tinubu also appointed retired Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as Rivers state’s sole administrator.

KanyiDaily recalls that Rivers women recently staged a protest at the Rivers State Government House, calling for the return of suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
