Driver Arrested As Police Stop Attempt To Smuggle Four Nigerian Women, Three Children In Libya

A Libyan driver has been arrested in connection with an attempted human smuggling case involving four Nigerian women and three children in Libya.

The arrest took place on Monday, May 19, 2025, during a routine security check at the Ashkada-Sabha Triangle Gate.

Migrant Rescue Watch reported that the driver, identified by his initials Y.A.M.Y. and born in 1993, tried to bribe the officers at the checkpoint in a failed attempt to avoid being caught.

The women and children, who had no legal travel documents, were handed over to the Al-Shatti Security Directorate, where they await further legal proceedings.

Police during inspection at the Ashkada-Sabha Triangle Gate thwarted an attempted human smuggling and arrested a Libyan driver (‘Y. A. M. Y.’, born in 1993) who transported 4 undocumented migrant females and 3 children of Nigerian nationality,” the post read.

“During inspection the driver offered a bribe to police officers in an attempt to evade accountability. All transferred to Al-Shatti Security Directorate pending referral to competent judicial authorities.”
