FCTA Shuts Down PDP National Secretariat In Abuja [Video]

The Federal Capital Territory (FCTA) has shut down Wadata Plaza, which serves as the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja.

The FCTA officials sealed off the PDP National Secretariat on Monday, May 26, due to unpaid ground rent and tenancy fees.

The building, located at Wuse Zone 5, was sealed on Monday afternoon ahead of the PDPs national executive council (NEC) meeting scheduled for Tuesday.

The NEC, which is the highest decision-making body of the PDP, includes current and former presidents and vice presidents, state governors, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), National Assembly leaders, former governors, state chairpersons, founding members, and others.

As outlined in Section 31(4) of the PDP Constitution, the NEC is required to meet at least once every three months. The last such meeting was held in April 2024.

Tuesday’s meeting was expected to address several pressing internal issues that have plagued the party for months.

However, with the party headquarters sealed, it is now uncertain whether the NEC meeting will take place or if an alternative venue will be announced.

The FCTA’s action is part of a broader clampdown on property owners defaulting on rent payments.

In recent weeks, the administration cancelled 4,794 land titles across Abuja’s prime areas — including Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, and Garki — due to long-overdue debts.

According to FCTA officials, over 8,000 property owners collectively owe nearly N7 billion in unpaid rents, with some debts accumulating for over four decades.

Notably, in March, the FCTA had already revoked the land title of the PDP national secretariat located in the Central Business District, citing non-payment of ground rent for more than 19 years.

At the time, the administration stated that affected property owners could appeal the revocation for possible reinstatement.

This comes a few hours after FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike announced his withdrawal from all reconciliation efforts previously agreed upon by the PDP to resolve the party’s internal crisis.
