FG To Sell 753 Seized Duplexes From Emefiele To Nigerians

The Federal Government has announced plans to sell 753 housing units that were seized from former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

This was made known by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development after the Minister, Ahmed Dangiwa, and EFCC Chairman, Olanipekun Olukoyede, visited the estate for an on-site inspection.

The estate, which had been linked to Emefiele, was confiscated by the EFCC in December 2024 and handed over to the Ministry following a directive from President Bola Tinubu.

During the inspection, Dangiwa stated that the Ministry will begin structural assessments of the buildings immediately.

According to him, once the integrity of the homes is confirmed, they will be completed and sold to Nigerians through the Renewed Hope Portal, which is already active.

He stressed the government’s commitment to fighting corruption and urged public officials to act with integrity. He also praised the EFCC for what he called one of the largest recoveries in Nigeria’s history.

EFCC Chairman Olukoyede explained that the estate spans over 150,000 square metres and includes duplexes and other housing types.

He added that the purpose of the inspection was to show the public that the estate is real, not just something seen in aerial shots on TV.

The property was recovered through a final court order issued on December 2, 2024, by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the FCT High Court.

In April 2025, Emefiele attempted to reclaim the estate, accusing the EFCC of keeping him in the dark during the forfeiture process. However, the court dismissed his request.

KanyiDaily recalls that a Federal High Court in Lagos also ruled that $4.7 million, ₦830 million, and several properties linked to Godwin Emefiele be permanently forfeited to the Nigerian government.
