Gbajabiamila Threatens N10bn Suit Against Adeniyi Adeyemi Over Murder, Bribery Claims

Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has threatened to file a N10 billion defamation lawsuit against Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi over allegations accusing him of murder, bribery, abuse of office and other criminal acts.

A legal notice dated July 6, 2026, and signed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Kemi Pinheiro on behalf of Pinheiro LP, was sent to Adeyemi following comments he made during a press conference on June 25.

Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi is facing criminal charges linked to the alleged operation of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

During the briefing, Adeyemi claimed that Gbajabiamila demanded a share of the council’s supposed take-off funds, received money through intermediaries, misused his office and took part in a cover-up.

The ‘fake’ PFIPC DG also referred to the Chief of Staff as “a murderer” and “an assassin”.

In his response, Femi Gbajabiamila’s lawyers described the allegations as false, malicious and damaging to his reputation.

They insisted that the claims were made without any factual basis and were intended to portray him as corrupt, dishonest and unfit for public office.

The legal team also stated that Gbajabiamila has never met, spoken with or had any personal or official relationship with Adeyemi. According to the letter, this makes the accusations even more reckless and baseless.

The lawyers further noted that Adeyemi is already standing trial before the Federal High Court in Abuja in a case involving allegations of forgery.

He is accused of forging an appointment letter bearing Gbajabiamila’s alleged signature and using fake presidential letterhead documents to present himself as a government official.

The letter also referenced nine allegations made by Adeyemi at the press conference.

Among them were claims that Gbajabiamila sought 48 per cent of an alleged N27.4 billion take-off grant for the council, amounting to about N12.5 billion, and received N400 million through proxies in connection with appointments linked to the organisation.

Adeyemi also accused the Chief of Staff of intimidating individuals and media organisations, manipulating budget processes, attempting to misuse security agencies and carrying out official duties while under the influence of intoxicating substances.

Gbajabiamila’s lawyers argued that the media briefing was an attempt to influence public opinion while criminal proceedings against Adeyemi are already before the court. They stressed that media campaigns cannot replace the legal process.

The legal notice gave Adeyemi 72 hours to withdraw all statements made against Gbajabiamila.

It also demanded that he remove all related videos, transcripts and recordings from every platform, publish a full apology and retraction in at least five national newspapers and on all social media platforms where the claims appeared, and provide a written promise not to repeat the allegations.

The lawyers warned that failure to comply would lead to criminal defamation proceedings under the laws of the Federal Capital Territory and a civil lawsuit seeking N10 billion in damages.

The suit would also request a permanent court order preventing further defamatory statements and compelling Adeyemi to publish the required apology. According to the letter, any damages awarded would be donated to a charity chosen by Gbajabiamila.

The controversy is linked to the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, which appeared in the 2026 Appropriation Act under the name Presidential Economic Advisory Council/Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council and received more than N1.3 billion in budget allocations.

Adeyemi argued that the inclusion of the council in the signed budget shows that it cannot be regarded as a non-existent agency.

However, the Presidency has maintained that the organisation is fraudulent and has no official status.

Meanwhile, human rights lawyer Femi Falana has called for an independent investigation into the allegations involving both Gbajabiamila and Adeyemi, saying the Presidency does not have the constitutional authority to clear anyone in the matter.

Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi is expected to appear before the Federal High Court on July 27, 2026.
