Kolade Alabi, who is also the chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), had just finished speaking at the APC Secretariat on Acme Road, Ikeja, when he slumped around 12:10 p.m.
Party members quickly rushed to assist him and managed to revive him before he was taken to a hospital for medical care.
The incident disrupted the meeting, which was organized ahead of the local government elections scheduled for July 12 in Lagos.
As part of preparations for the polls, the APC has been encouraging members, leaders, and aspirants to consider choosing candidates through consensus rather than contesting every position.
During the meeting, Lagos Deputy Governor Kadri Hamzat and other senior APC figures stressed the need for unity. They urged aspirants to put the party’s collective interest first.
They noted that if members can agree among themselves, candidates for chairmanship and councillorship positions across the state’s 57 LGAs and LCDAs could be selected without internal conflict.
The party believes this consensus strategy would promote a smooth and peaceful primary election process.
