Baba Ali was killed on Sunday when a group of hoodlums launched an attack on the Rano Police Station, setting parts of the building on fire along with two vehicles.
The police said Ali was killed while carrying out his duties, describing the killing as not only a brutal act but also a direct attack on the force and society as a whole.
In a statement on Wednesday, police spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa expressed the Command’s deep sorrow over the incident, calling it “a senseless killing” that has shocked and angered many.
“This senseless killing is a grave attack on the very fabric of our society and a direct assault on the sacrifices of our brave officers who risk their lives daily to protect our communities,” the statement read in part.
The attack, which also involved vandalism and arson, triggered a swift police response. A full investigation was launched immediately, leading to the arrest of dozens of suspects so far.
The police confirmed that those behind the killing would be brought to justice and assured the public that no effort would be spared in tracking down everyone involved.
Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, urged residents to stay calm and cooperate with investigators by sharing any useful information.
“We appreciate the public’s understanding, condolences, and cooperation. We urge citizens to continue to support the police in our mission to protect and serve,” the command said.
