This comes after Abdullahi Ganduje resigned from the position on Thursday, a move that took many people by surprise.
In a statement on June 27, APC spokesperson Felix Morka explained that Ganduje left the role to focus on pressing personal matters.
The statement reads, “His resignation, which is effective immediately, was offered to enable him attend to urgent and important personal matters.
“In his letter of resignation addressed to the National Working Committee (NWC) through the National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, Ganduje expressed gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Tinubu, for the opportunity to serve the party at the highest level.”
Morka said Tinubu asked Dalori to assume the role of acting chairman until the APC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meets to appoint a permanent replacement.
Ganduje, who hails from the North-West region, became APC National Chairman in August 2023 after Abdullahi Adamu, from the North Central zone, resigned.
However, his appointment was met with internal pushback from some party members who felt it disregarded APC’s zoning formula.
Before taking on the party leadership, Ganduje served as Governor of Kano State from 2015 to 2023.
In January 2025, President Tinubu appointed Ganduje Chairman of the Board for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
