M.I Abaga Regrets Supporting APC, Says It’s No Longer The Party Of His Dreams

Nigerian rapper, Jude M.I Abaga has admitted he regrets supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the past.

Speaking on a recent episode of “The Manism Podcast”, the 43-year-old rapper said he backed the APC during the 2015 general elections because he believed the then-ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was highly corrupt.

However, he said the APC has since fallen short of his expectations and doesn’t reflect the values he hoped for in a political party.

M.I Abaga noted that he has since shifted focus from online political commentary to practical efforts in nation-building.

He said, “I don’t complain on Twitter and Instagram anymore, not because I don’t get the pain. I get it.

“They were just scolding me yesterday when I tweeted about the thing [herdsmen attacks] that happened in Benue and a lot of people were saying, ‘But M.I, you supported the APC

“Yes, I supported APC because at that time, I felt that the PDP government was very corrupt. I was part of the people who lifted my voice to say, ‘Let us stand and bring in democracy.’

“As human being, no matter how much you try to be right, you will be wrong [sometimes]. APC unfortunately isn’t the APC of my dreams.”

Abaga also emphasized the importance of young people stepping up and making a difference in their own way, especially within the creative industry.

I work in the creative sector, and the creative sector can empower millions of young people,” he said.

“If the country isn’t set up with leaders that can provide jobs, that doesn’t mean I can’t create opportunities.”

KanyiDaily recalls that in 2023, M.I Abaga was given appointment by Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang as honorary adviser on entertainment and creativity.
