Natasha Akpoti Granted Bail After Being Arraigned On Fresh ‘Defamation’ Charges

Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has been arranged on six new charges for allegedly defaming Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.

Natasha Akpoti appeared at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, June 30, accompanied by her husband Emmanuel Uduaghan, activist Aisha Yesufu, and several supporters.

The senator pleaded not guilty to the six-count charge, which was filed under the Cybercrime Prohibition and Prevention Act.

The judge, Justice Mohammed Umar adjourned the case to September 22, 2025 for commencement of trial.

Senator Natasha was first arraigned on a similar charge on June 19, 2025, at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court.

She was charged on a separate three-count charge of criminal defamation filed by the federal government on May 16, 2025, in suit number CR/297/25.

The lawmaker was granted bail in that matter, with conditions including a N50 million bond and one surety who must be a reputable person and own property in Abuja.

KanyiDaily recalls that the court dismissed a request by the Federal Government to order the arrest of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan after she failed to attend her defamation trial.
