Nigerian Woman Dies During Hajj Pilgrimage In Makkah

A female pilgrim from Plateau State, Jamila Muhammad, has died while taking part in the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage in Makkah.

Her death was confirmed in a statement released on Monday night by Daiyabu Dauda, the Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board.

According to him, Jamila passed away at King Abdul’aziz Hospital in Makkah due to complications related to diabetes, as diagnosed by the attending doctors.

Dauda, who also serves as the Amirul Hajj for the state, said he was deeply saddened by the loss.

He explained that once her condition was brought to his attention, he immediately instructed the medical team to ensure she received proper care at the hospital, following directives from Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

He revealed that Jamila’s funeral prayer took place at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, and she was laid to rest according to Islamic customs. Family members and officials were present to pay their last respects.

The statement read, “From God we are, and to him, we shall all return. With a heavy heart and total submission to the will of Allah. Plateau State has lost one of its female pilgrims, Hajiya Jamila Muhammad, on Monday, 2nd of June, 2025, at the King Abdul’aziz Hospital in Makka as a result of diabetic complications, according to the doctors.

“And whoever leaves his home as an emigrant to Allah and His Messenger and then death overtakes him, his reward has already become incumbent upon Allah (Quran 4:100).”

Dauda also offered his sympathies to her family, friends, and the government and people of Plateau State, praying that Allah forgives her sins and blesses her with Aljannatul Firdaws.

“May Allah forgive her shortcomings and grant her Aljannatul Firdaws,” he prayed.
