Tinubu To Reportedly Reinstate Fubara On Condition He Won’t Run For Second Term

President Bola Tinubu has reportedly agreed to reinstate Siminalayi Fubara as the governor of Rivers State, on the condition he must give up any plans to seek re-election in 2027.

According to TheCable, the agreement was reached during a private meeting held Thursday night at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

In attendance were FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Fubara, suspended House Speaker Martins Amaewhule, and several lawmakers involved in the political crisis rocking the state.

According to sources familiar with the discussion, the deal is part of a broader effort to restore stability and democratic order in Rivers.

A source said Fubara is expected to complete his first term in office, but he must step aside after 2027 and not run for a second term.

Another key part of the deal reportedly gives Wike the authority to select chairpersons for all 23 local government areas in Rivers  a move that strengthens his control at the grassroots level.

Fubara has also agreed to settle all outstanding entitlements owed to the 27 pro-Wike lawmakers who were suspended from the House of Assembly.

In return, the lawmakers will not pursue impeachment against him.

The lawmakers, led by Amaewhule, had defected to the APC during the height of the political standoff, but continued to claim their positions.

Those close to the negotiations describe the outcome as a compromise that favors peace but significantly reduces Fubara’s political influence.

The arrangement is clear: no second term, no local government control, and peace will return,” the source said.

The president made it clear that Rivers cannot afford a prolonged crisis. The deal is about restoring calm, but it comes at a steep cost for Fubara,” another source said.

Wike is the real winner here. By controlling the local government chairmen, he retains significant influence over the state’s political machinery, which will be crucial for 2027.”

Meanwhile, Nyesom Wike has confirmed that he and Governor Siminalayi Fubara have put their political differences behind them and agreed to work together moving forward.
