Nigerian Army Declares Three-Day Mourning For 17 Soldiers Killed In Niger Attack

The Nigerian Army has announced a three-day mourning period in honour of 17 soldiers who were killed in a recent attack in Niger State.

The soldiers lost their lives when gunmen launched coordinated assaults on military locations in Kwana Dutse Local Government Area of Niger State and parts of Kaduna State.

The incident, which has shocked the country, is one of the deadliest against military personnel in recent times.

In a statement shared on the Army’s official website and X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, the military said the mourning will take place from June 25 to 27, 2025.

It described the gesture as a sign of respect for the fallen soldiers who gave their lives while defending the nation.

During this period, all military institutions and personnel across the country will fly the Nigerian Army flag at half-mast,” the statement added.

Army personnel nationwide have also been directed to observe the period in remembrance of their fallen colleagues.

The Nigerian Army expressed deep sympathy to the families, friends, and loved ones of the deceased.

The statement further stressed the military’s commitment to recognising and honouring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the country.

This period of national reflection not only serves as a tribute to the soldiers who died in service but also highlights the risks faced daily by military personnel in the fight to secure Nigeria.

KanyiDaily recently reported how Boko Haram terrorists launched a deadly midnight attack on Izge community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, killing an army captain and a soldier.
