BREAKING: Former President Muhammadu Buhari Dead

Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has died in London, his family announced on Sunday afternoon. He was 82.

In a brief statement released by Garba Shehu, former presidential spokesman, the family confirmed Buhari passed away at a clinic in London, where he had reportedly been receiving medical care.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un,” the statement read, invoking the Islamic prayer signifying “From God we come, and to Him we return.”

“May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin,” the family added.

Muhammadu Buhari Cause of Death

KanyiDaily had earlier reported that Buhari has been unwell for some time, but is believed to be recuperating from his medical treatment in London. A few days ago, President Tinubu, who was in St. Lucia, reportedly sent Vice President Kashim Shettima to visit the former President to assess his condition and make sure he had the necessary support for a full recovery.

Buhari, a retired Major General, served as Nigeria’s military head of state from 1983 to 1985 and later as democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023. His tenure was marked by efforts to combat corruption, tackle Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast, and stabilize Africa’s largest economy, though critics also accused his administration of human rights abuses and worsening economic hardship.

Buhari, born on December 17, 1942, in Daura, Katsina State, leaves behind his wife, Aisha, and several children.

Further details about funeral arrangements will be announced soon.

This is a developing story…more details will be updated.
