Court Rejects Fred Ajudua’s New Bail Request In Fraud Case

Lagos High Court in Ikeja has rejected a fresh bail request from businessman Fred Ajudua, who is facing trial for allegedly defrauding a Palestinian national of over $1 million.

Ajudua’s lawyer, Olalekan Ojo (SAN), urged the court to grant bail on health grounds, pending the determination of his trial.

Ojo stated that his client suffers from chronic kidney disease and had been brought to court with the help of medical staff from the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

He argued that Fred Ajudua needs urgent medical care and reminded the court that only the living can stand trial.

However, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) counsel, Seidu Atteh, opposed the bail plea.

He argued that since Ajudua already has matters pending at the Supreme Court, any fresh application should be filed there, not at the trial court.

Ojo countered that the case before the Supreme Court had nothing to do with the bail request and that the current application was a separate issue entirely.

After hearing both sides, Justice Mojisola Dada said she would wait for the Supreme Court’s decision before ruling on Ajudua’s application.

The judge said, “In view of the applications filed at the Supreme Court, I am constrained to make any decision with respect to this instant application filed by the defence counsel. I will abide by the decisions of the Supreme Court.”

The court then adjourned the case to October 10, October 31, and November 20 for continuation of the trial.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja granted former Managing Director of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), Ahmed Kuru, permission to travel abroad for urgent medical care.
