The senator was stopped from entering the Senate complex on Tuesday afternoon after she arrived in a black vehicle, but was halted at the first security checkpoint.
After some time, Natasha Akpoti stepped out of the car and proceeded on foot into the complex, accompanied by her supporters, including well-known activist Aisha Yesufu.
When they reached the second gate, security personnel asked them to leave. Refusing to turn back, the senator and her supporters made their way past the checkpoint only to find the final gate locked, preventing them from going any further.
Despite trying to gain access, Senator Natasha and her team were not allowed into the chamber. She eventually left the premises, expressing disappointment at how she was treated.
Speaking to reporters, she said she would consult her legal team and promised to return once the Senate reconvenes after its upcoming two-month recess.
KanyiDaily recalls that Senator Natasha Akpoti’s attempt to resume follows a Federal High Court ruling that directed the Senate to recall her from a six-month suspension.
