The event began on Friday at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, after being shifted from Muri Okunola Park to accommodate the unexpectedly large number of attendees who registered to witness the feat.
For the challenge, Hilda Baci is using a specially crafted pot six meters wide, built to handle the massive amount of rice needed for the record.
In an Instagram post ahead of the attempt, the chef shared videos of her preparations, joking about personally scrubbing the giant pot.
“Yes, I can officially confirm this pot is squeaky clean! I rolled up my sleeves and washed it myself. In just a few hours, this same pot will carry thousands of servings of Nigerian Jollof history in the making,” she wrote.
Baci disclosed that the record-breaking dish will require around 250 bags of rice.
KanyiDaily recalls that Hilda Baci rose to international fame in May 2023 when she set a Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual. That record was later broken in November of the same year by Irish chef Alan Fisher.
