Police Arrests Man For Beating His Rival To Death Over A Woman In Niger State

A young man, Naziru Amadu, has been beaten to death by a rival suitor, Tanko Sule, during a dispute over a woman he was engaged to marry in Magandu, Tungan District, Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Friday night, September 12, 2025, when Sule, accompanied by some friends, stormed Naziru’s home.

According to a source, the group allegedly assaulted Amadu in his room, leaving him badly injured until mother heard disturbing noises from her son’s room.

“The deceased’s mother heard noises from her son’s room. She went to investigate and found her son bleeding from his mouth and nose. She raised the alarm, and her son was rushed to the hospital. That was on Friday,” one source explained.

“On Saturday, the victim passed away around 10 am. Before he passed away, he mentioned that he was attacked by Tanko Sule. He said Sule had, on several occasions, threatened him if he did not leave the girl for him to marry. The deceased had already completed the formal engagement with the girl.”

He was laid to rest on Saturday in Kawo town, following Islamic rites.

Confirming the incident, Niger State Police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said Sule has been arrested.

“On 12/09/2025 at about 2 pm, it was reported at B Division Kontagora that on the same date at about 12:30 am, one Nasiru Ahmadu was seriously beaten and strangled in his room. One Tanko Sule (25) was mentioned to have attacked the victim due to a girlfriend issue,” the PPRO stated.

“The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later confirmed dead. The suspect, Tanko Sule, was arrested. Investigation is ongoing, and further developments will be made available.”
