Ted Abbott made the declaration on X while reacting to a viral video showing protesters carrying placards in support of Sharia law.
“I signed laws that BAN Sharia Law and Sharia Compounds in Texas,” Abbott said. “No business and no individual should fear fools like this.”
He further urged Texans to alert local police or the Department of Public Safety if anyone attempts to enforce Sharia rules.
The governor’s statement was in response to a video from Houston, where an Islamic cleric was seen using a megaphone to urge shop owners to stop selling alcohol, pork, and lottery tickets in line with Islamic teachings.
In the video, the Imam told the crowd: “People should not violate the religion of Islam by selling products that are against our religion. Because we should love what Allah loves and hate what Allah hates.
“We will be visiting all the stores in the neighbourhood where the religion of Islam is ignored.”
