ADC Suspends South-South Vice Chairman, Usani Uguru For ‘Anti-Party Activities’

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suspended its National Vice Chairman for the South-South, Dr. Usani Uguru Usani, citing actions it says threaten the unity and progress of the party.

The suspension took effect immediately after a meeting of the party’s State Working Committee (SWC) in Cross River State on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

In a statement released in Abuja on Monday, the State Publicity Secretary, James Otudor, said the committee concluded that Dr. Usani’s recent behavior violated the ADC’s constitution and went against the party’s guiding principles.

Otudor explained that the committee reviewed several petitions accusing Usani of engaging in anti-party activities, disobeying party authority, and taking actions that could harm the ADC’s image and electoral strength.

In accordance with the party’s constitution and disciplinary procedures, Dr. Usani’s suspension will remain in effect pending the outcome of a formal investigation by the relevant party organs,” the statement read.

The committee also criticized the appointment of Ms. Jackie Wayas as Deputy National Publicity Secretary, saying the state leadership was not consulted before her selection.

Otudor further alleged that Wayas had shown “little engagement” with the Cross River chapter and questioned her commitment to the party’s unity in the South-South region.

“Consequently, the SWC urged the National Leadership to review her appointment and replace her with a competent, credible, and media-savvy individual from Cross River State with a verifiable record of commitment to the ideals of the ADC,” he stated.

The statement also expressed disappointment with some members of the Coalition Movement who, despite pledging allegiance to the ADC, had yet to complete their membership registration.

It warned that the party would not condone dual membership or allow its platform to be used by politicians with conflicting partisan interests.

“All coalition leaders and intending members are directed to complete their registration at their respective ward levels within seven days, ending Saturday, October 25, 2025, or risk exclusion from leadership and decision-making processes within the party,” the statement added.

Reaffirming its support for the national leadership, the Cross River ADC pledged to continue promoting credible leadership and a people-focused political vision for both the state and the South-South region.

“We urge all members to remain calm, law-abiding, and steadfast as the party’s internal mechanisms for discipline, justice, and accountability take their full course,” the statement concluded.

KanyiDaily recalls that the ADC recently announced the sudden death of its Deputy Publicity Secretary in Imo State, Hon. Ugochimereze Chinedu Asuzu.
