According to TMZ, the 51-year-old singer, whose real name is Aliaune Thiam, was arrested on November 7, and booking records show he posed for a mugshot in a black hoodie.
Court records indicate the arrest was linked to a failure to appear for a suspended license violation that was first issued earlier this year.
The situation reportedly began in September when police found a Tesla Cybertruck stopped in the middle of a Georgia road.
Akon was driving and told officers that the vehicle’s battery had died. After the truck was towed, police ran his information and discovered that his license had been suspended due to a prior failure to appear from January 2023.
He was cited for driving with a suspended license and released.
Officers also noted that an “illegal vape” was found in the truck’s center console, which was later confiscated and destroyed.
A bench warrant was issued two months later, which led to Akon’s brief arrest earlier this week. He was released shortly after being processed.
Akon’s team has not issued a statement on the matter.
KanyiDaily recalls that Akon said he was much happier when he was poor because being successful comes with a lot of problems.
