The shocking incident occurred shortly after Barau’s Orji Kalu netted a 69th-minute equaliser to bring the score to 1-1, sparking outrage among sections of the home fans at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.
Barau FC confirmed the attack in real time through their official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

Eyewitness footage and photos circulating on social media showed Nana Abraham bleeding profusely from his neck as teammates and officials rushed to his aid. Security personnel quickly intervened to control the situation, and the match was halted for several minutes before being resumed under heavy security presence.
