Man Lynched By Angry Mob After Slitting Cleric’s Throat Inside Kano Mosque

An elderly man, Ladan Zubairu, was killed on Monday morning at the Yusuf Garko Mosque in the Maraba Quarters area of Kano.

According to reports, the man suspected of carrying out the attack was chased by an angry crowd shortly after the incident.

He was beaten to death by the mob, and his house was later set on fire, causing tension in the neighbourhood before security officers stepped in to restore calm.

The victim’s son, Isa Kasim, said his father had gone to the mosque early in the morning to call worshippers to prayer.

He explained that after the first call to prayer, his father usually sat for a short time to recite prayers before making the second call.

He had just finished the first call and was seated when someone entered the mosque with a weapon, grabbed him and slaughtered him. In short, his throat was slit,” Kasim said.

Kasim said his father had just completed the first call and was seated when an armed man entered the mosque, attacked him, and killed him by cutting his throat.

He added that youths in the area quickly organised themselves and went after the attacker.

The suspect was eventually caught and killed by members of the community.

By the will of God, the attacker did not escape. Members of the community gathered, tracked him down and killed him,” he said.

Kasim also disclosed that after the suspect was killed, residents found part of his father’s severed throat wrapped in a nylon bag inside the attacker’s pocket.

The Kano State Police Command confirmed the incident through their spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.

He said police officers arrived promptly to control the situation and prevent further violence.

Our officers quickly intervened to restore calm and prevent further escalation. Normalcy has now returned to Maraba Quarters,” Kiyawa said.

Police recovered the bodies of both the victim and the suspect and took them to the Mohammed Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has directed a full investigation into the matter.

We are committed to ensuring that anyone found culpable will face the full force of the law,” Kiyawa added.

Residents have been urged to stay calm and assist the police with any useful information as investigations continue.

KanyiDaily also reported how a magistrate court in Kano directed popular TikTok personalities Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda to get married within 60 days.
