Stanley Amandi, a director and former chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), was taken into custody in September 2025.
This is the first time his alleged involvement in the coup plot has been made public.
According to Premium Times, Amandi was hired by the alleged coup plotters to act as a propagandist.
The plot allegedly targeted top government officials for assassination as part of a plan to seize power by force.
Sources familiar with the case told Premium Times last year that the plan included attempts to kill President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, among others.
On Monday, the Defence Headquarters confirmed the plot, saying the officers involved would face military judicial panels.
The statement added that the investigation had been completed and sent to “appropriate superior authority in line with extant regulations.”
The military said the investigation was “comprehensive” and followed established procedures, reviewing “all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel.”
The findings reportedly identified several officers involved in planning to overthrow the government, a breach described as “inconsistent with the ethics, values and professional standards required of members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”
Last October, KanyiDaily reported that 16 officers were under investigation for allegedly plotting a coup, though the army stated at the time that the probe was for “indiscipline and breach of service regulations.”
Additional arrests of both officers and civilians followed as the investigation expanded.
Sources said that suspects, including senior officers, will face both civil courts and military court-martials.
Military personnel will be tried first in court-martials, while civilians, including Amandi, will face civil court proceedings.
Stanley Amandi is a well-known Nollywood actor, director, and producer. His credits include directing “The Album,” directing and producing “Tiger King” in 2008, producing “Cornerstone” in 2019, and acting in “Once Upon a Dream” in 2024.
His last activity on Instagram was on September 19, 2025, just before his arrest.
KanyiDaily recalls that the Nigerian Army announced that investigations into 16 officers arrested for allegedly plotting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu, have been completed.
