Earlier this month, TMZ reported that the 45-year-old was rushed to a hospital in Las Vegas on January 6 after coming down with pneumonia and experiencing chest problems.
In an Instagram post shared on January 25, Ray J said the situation was life-threatening, but he survived thanks to prayers and support from family, friends, and fans.
He explained that doctors told him his heart is working at only about 25 percent, but he is trying to stay focused and hopeful
“I was in the hospital. My heart’s only beating, like, 25 percent, but as long as I stay focused and stay on the right path, everything will be alright. So thank you for all your prayers,” the singer said.
While admitting that his condition is still serious, he thanked his mother, his sister Brandy, his father, and others who stood by him during the ordeal.
“Thank you to my mom, [sister] Brandy, and my dad, and everybody for helping me through,” Ray J said.
In another video that later circulated online, Ray J claimed doctors told him he has only a few months to live.
He suggested that he may not make it past 2027, insisting this information came directly from his medical team, even as someone with him questioned the claim.
“2027 is definitely a wrap for me,” he said in the video. When a friend denied his claim, Ray J replied, “That’s what the doctor said!”
The singer went on to blame years of heavy drinking and drug use for his condition.
He said he pushed his body too far, believing he could handle extreme habits without consequences.
The singer said that he “f—ed my heart up on the right side, right here,” adding, “It’s, like, black. It’s like gun.”
He continued, “I f—ed up. You know why? … Because I think I thought I had more weight. I thought I was a big [shot], so I could handle all the alcohol. I could handle all the Adderall. I could handle all the drugs, but I couldn’t. And it curbed my time here.”
According to him, there was a time when he drank several bottles of alcohol daily and took large amounts of prescription stimulants, thinking he was untouchable.
He admitted that mindset ultimately damaged his health and shortened his life.
Ray J urged others to learn from his experience and take better care of themselves.
“I was drinking four or five bottles a day” and taking “10 Addies” at a time. “I’m like, ‘Ain’t nothing happening to me? F— it. I’m indestructible,’” he remarked. “Joke’s on me. Take care of yourselves, y’all.”
In a separate video, the singer said he had come to terms with the possibility of dying, adding that he had made sure his ex-wife, Princess Love, and their two children would be financially secure.
He stated that “it didn’t matter if my days are counted. My baby mama gon’ be straight, my kids gon’ be straight. IIf they want to spend all the money, they can spend it, but I did my part here.”
Ray J still expressed regret over how far he pushed himself and acknowledged that his current condition is severe.
He said, “I shouldn’t have went this hard, bro. I shouldn’t have went that hard. And then, when it’s all done, burn me, don’t bury me.”
He also revealed that his parents were scheduled to take him to another medical appointment the next day, adding that his sister Brandy had stepped in to help cover his expenses.
“My mamma and my daddy coming to pick me up tomorrow and they’re gonna take me to the check-up,” he said.
“Shout out to my mom and daddy and shout out to Brandy for looking out for me. She paid my bills for me for the rest of the year.”
This is not Ray J’s first battle with pneumonia. He was previously hospitalized for the illness in October 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
