Fire Razes Computer Village In Lagos, Destroy Goods Worth Millions

Goods worth millions of naira were lost after a fire broke out in a multi-storey commercial building in Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos State.

The fire occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at a one-storey building located on Somoye Osundairo Street.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said it received a distress call around 1:55 a.m., which led to the immediate activation of emergency response teams from its Command and Control Centre in Alausa.

Upon arrival of the LASEMA Response Team at the incident scene, it was observed that a fire outbreak had occurred in a one-storey commercial building accommodating dealers in computers and accessories in Computer Village, Ikeja.

“Responders observed active flames and dense smoke, indicating intense combustion within the structure.

“The high volume of combustible materials contributed to the rapid spread of fire,” the statement issued on Tuesday morning, read in part.

LASEMA said no lives were lost in the incident, although a few firefighters sustained minor injuries.

The agency noted that the cause of the fire was still unknown and is being investigated.

It disclosed that the entire upper floor of the building was completely destroyed, with all goods and valuables stored there reduced to ashes.

The agency added that the structure was partly damaged and would need urgent safety checks.

LASEMA also said its team secured the area and coordinated efforts with other agencies, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS, and the Nigeria Police, to stop the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.

All goods and properties worth millions of naira stored therein were totally destroyed by the conflagration.

“Firefighting operations have successfully suppressed and contained the fire within the affected building, preventing escalation to neighbouring structures,” the agency said, adding that damping-down operations were ongoing to prevent re-ignition.

KanyiDaily also reported how fire destroyed three vehicles and a community power house at a filling station in the Kara area of Kishi, Irepo Local Government Area of Oyo State.
