It was gathered that the fire destroyed at least 50 shops in the market.
The spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident in a chat with Channels Television.
He said the fire started around 5:50 a.m. and firefighters were still working to put it out.
Abdullahi added that officials have not yet determined the full extent of the damage, as an investigation will soon begin.
Many of the affected shops were involved in oil production as well as nylon and plastic recycling.
