The Ogun State Police Command on Friday said it could not confirm that the incident occurred within the state, even as it cautioned members of the public against circulating unverified claims online.
In a brief statement sent to the media, the command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said investigations had begun to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged shooting.
“For the sake of clarity, the command cannot confirm that Broda Shaggy was shot anywhere within Ogun State. Investigation into the matter has, however, commenced,” Babaseyi said.
“Members of the public are kindly advised to refrain from spreading unverified information and allow the investigation to run its course.”
However, a Nigerian police source who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter said the influencer sustained a gunshot injury during a skit shoot.
According to the source, the incident occurred on Sunday under the Sango-Ota bridge while the entertainer was filming with members of his crew.
“He was shooting a skit under the Sango-Ota bridge when he sustained a gunshot injury. We don’t have information yet on how it happened, but his crew members who were present quickly rushed him to the hospital,” the source said.
The source added that the skit maker was initially taken to Blooming Care Hospital in the Alakuko area of Lagos, where medical staff administered first aid.
Further findings indicated that he was later referred to Duchess Hospital in the Government Residential Area of Ikeja for additional treatment, where he is currently recuperating.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that officers were alerted by a hospital after a gunshot victim was admitted to its facility.
Spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi said detectives and a patrol team were immediately deployed to the hospital.
“He was seen on a stretcher with an injury to his thigh. The location of the incident is in Sango-Ota and not within our jurisdiction, but the investigation is ongoing,” she said.
Meanwhile, no formal report has been filed with the police by the victim’s team since the incident occurred, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Efforts to reach the entertainer’s manager, Olufemi Oguntamu, for comment were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
