Amaechi, Hayatu-Deen Reject Results Of ADC Presidential Primary Election

Two contenders in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential race, Chibuike Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, have rejected the party’s primary election results, claiming the process was manipulated.

The third candidate, Atiku Abubakar, secured a decisive victory in the nationwide vote conducted across party wards.

Amaechi, a former Rivers State governor, dismissed the outcome as fraudulent, pointing to alleged voter suppression and several irregularities.

Speaking before the announcement by the committee led by Ikechi Emenike, Amaechi insisted the figures being prepared for release were unacceptable.

Hayatu-Deen also distanced himself from both the collation and the final announcement, describing the exercise as deeply flawed and alleging large-scale rigging.

In a post on X, Amaechi said the primary failed to meet the standards of openness and fairness the party had promised.

He maintained that he would only recognise results that came from a credible and transparent process.

Amaechi stated: “Following reports of widespread voter disenfranchisement in most parts of the country during the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primaries yesterday, I unequivocally reject the concocted results being announced.

“I had initially stated that I would only accept the outcome of the primaries if the process was free, fair and transparent, and I stand by my word.

“I will not accept results from a process that does not reflect the values that the ADC had pledged to uphold, to rescue Nigerians from the impunity and gross mismanagement that our country is currently facing in the hands of the ruling party.”

According to him, reports from across the country showed that many members were unable to vote.

He added: “There’s no way that about eighty per cent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results. Then, what makes us different from the others?

“The whole idea of the ADC was to give the Nigerian people a platform, to amplify the voices of the downtrodden and make Nigeria a better place for everyone irrespective of background, ethnicity or religion.”

He further accused the party of repeating the kind of misconduct it had blamed on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), including vote manipulation and denying members the chance to participate.

He stressed: “A party that criticises the ruling APC and INEC for vote buying, rigging and writing of results cannot be engaged in vote buying, writing of results and other electoral malpractices that lead to the disenfranchisement of voters who are party members. This is not acceptable.”

In a separate statement, Hayatu-Deen said he would not attend the announcement of the results.

He cited widespread reports of vote tampering, adding that he personally witnessed some of the issues and would decide his next steps after consulting with his team.

He stated: “I will not be attending the announcement of the ADC presidential election results today (yesterday).

“I am concerned by reports from across the country of widespread vote rigging, some of which I myself observed, and will therefore be taking advice on my next steps.”

KanyiDaily recalls that another ADC Faction had declared Dumebi Kachikwu as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
