Di’Ja, whose real name is Hadiza Blell, started her music journey in 2008 before joining Mavin Records in 2014.
Over the years, fans noticed her reduced presence in the music industry, leading to rumours that she had left the label.
However, in 2023, the singer explained that she never officially left Mavin Records.
She said her absence from the spotlight was simply because life circumstances changed.
Speaking during an interview on the Crea8torium podcast, Don Jazzy revealed that approving Di’Ja’s exit from the label deeply affected him emotionally.
According to him, the situation became so emotional that everyone involved in the discussion ended up crying.
He explained that he now leaves such difficult decisions to other executives at the company because he sees every artiste signed to Mavin Records as part of his family.
“One of the most difficult decisions of my career was when I had to let Di’ja go. That was difficult, and I don’t think I will let any artiste go again by myself,” he said.
“Tega and Rima handle that now if they need somebody to leave the label. Everybody on my record label is like my child. So, that was hard for both of us.
“And she knew that it was hard for me. She even questioned the guys in the room why they had to involve me in that. All of us started crying. It was hard.”
Don Jazzy also denied claims that Mavin Records treats some artistes better than others, insisting that all talents under the label are valued equally.
